All our babies are reared on Stephensons pelleted diet, and have constant access to barley straw and fresh hay daily. Water ia available AT ALL times. Babies bred throughout the summer months will also be used to grazing on the grass outside in the runs, however the weather on Saddleworth moor tends to get very wet and cold after September, so any babies born after this time usually do not get the chance to go out in the runs. Barley rings are also given daily as a treat.
Our rabbits are kept in a brick built building with electricty etc... therefore our babies, although used to cold temperatures, would benefit from being kept indoors when being purchased in the winter months.
Our babies are handled and socialised every day, they are used to coming in the house and being fussed and handled by lots of different people daily. Babies are handled from a very early age, we check them every day from day one, and start to handle them from a week old, sitting them in our palms for a few seconds each time. We also try and socialise our babies with other animals too, so that they are not spooked by other species when going into their new homes. Our babies are socialised at home with our own well behaved, cats and dogs.
On taking youre new babies home, it is VERY important you follow the feeding advice i give, this is because baby bunnies have extreamly sensative tummies and guts, and the stress of going to a new home, along with new food can coause reat problem for youre new addition. I will give plenty of advice on food changeover and letting youre new baby settle in to its new home, however i do reccoments proboiotics that can be put in youre bunnies drinking water, this settles the tummy and tops up the good bacteria in the guts, helping the changeover period run smoothly. I reccommend Carrs "Bums & Tums" formula, or a small animal Probiotic bought from Pets at home.
